Why is the Onkyo TX 8160 so popular
We are wondering about the popularity of the Onkyo TX 8160 and why is it so widely received by many owners who are looking for the perfect fit for a receiver that will suit the needs of most families. We do not own an Onkyo TX 8160, and hence we are grateful that we managed to obtain a set of the Onkyo TX 8160 for a review. After some hours of testing the product, here is our unbiased review of the Onkyo TX 8160.
Design and Build Quality
The Onkyo TX 8160 has a sleek, modern design that is both attractive and functional. Its slim profile and brushed aluminum finish make it a stylish addition to any home entertainment system. The receiver’s front panel is clean and uncluttered, with a large, easy-to-read display and a minimal number of buttons for quick and easy operation.
The build quality of the Onkyo TX 8160 is top-notch, with high-quality components and construction that ensure longevity and durability. The receiver is also relatively lightweight, making it easy to install and move around if necessary.
Features
While most receivers might have very sparse features, the Onkyo TX 8160 does have many of the features that are certainly eye-catching to the masses. Of course, being a network audio player, you will be able to play music from a wide variety of sources. This includes pairing your mobile phone to play songs from your favorite Spotify playlist, or to listen to your favorite radio broadcaster via AM/FM. Or, you might want to listen to a radio channel that is far away from home. All of these are made possible with the Onkyo TX 8160.
As an audiophile, I am particularly impressed that I could plug in my Dual 1229q as well as other turntables into this receiver via the phono input. With this combination, it can effectively belt out the songs from the turntable itself. There is the built-in amplifier that helps to reproduce the sound too.
One of the top features is its ability to play music within the network itself. Commonly termed as a network audio player, you can play songs from any source, so long as it is within the same WiFi network. You will not be limited to the type of file format too.
Should you decide to play the same music in other rooms, you can do so via the additional DAC and Zone 2 pre-outs, so long as there is a pair of speakers and power app attached in the other room. Even if you decide to different music in a different room, that is completely possible too.
Sound Quality
Though it has a rather small body in comparison to other larger music players, the Onkyo TX 8160 packs a punch in terms of the sound quality. Do not be deceived by the petite size, as the sound that it produces can rival that of any other more expensive options. It offers a 2 channel stereo that will enable you to play songs of all genres effectively. This means you will be able to hear the highs and lows clearly, which is something not commonly found in most network audio player. When we took it out for testing, we were surprised at how loud and clear the songs are being projected out, even when it is connected to my turntable. You could literally identify each instrument that is being played on the records itself. This is perhaps helped by the massive EI transformer and the two custom made 8,200 μF Hi-Current Capacitors. Of course, to the layman, it means a better capacity and ability to encode sound and project it clearer than before. The in-house wide range amplification technology also helps to shape the sound too.
Another reason for its high clarity is due to the ability to adapt to files of various sources as well as frequencies. This is something truly unique to the TX 8160.
Aesthetics
Nothing too fanciful about the Onkyo TX 8160. It has a sleek outlook that will fit into most modern decor. If you notice, there are a few controls at the front of the Onkyo TX 8160 that allows you to do some of the adjustments to the sound. Apart from the usual bass and treble. For the rear of the Onkyo TX 8160, you notice that there are a few ports here for you to insert the various line too. No brainer here really as it gives you more options than you will ever need.
Ease Of Use
The controls itself are pretty easy to understand. With the various knobs at the front of the Onkyo TX 8160 that allows you to adjust the volume as well as control other features, I guess even your child will find it easy to use the player. Also, it does come with a remote control that allows you to control the Onkyo TX 8160 from your sofa. Pretty easy to use this player.
Connectivity
The Onkyo TX 8160 offers a wide range of connectivity options, making it easy to integrate into your existing home entertainment system. The receiver features built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, allowing you to stream music wirelessly from your smartphone, tablet, or computer. It also has built-in support for a variety of music streaming services, including Spotify, Tidal, Pandora, and Deezer.
In addition, the Onkyo TX 8160 has a host of other connectivity options, including four HDMI inputs, two digital audio inputs, and four analog audio inputs. This means that you can connect a wide range of devices, including your TV, Blu-ray player, game console, and more.
The Verdict
If you are looking for a Network Audio Receiver with plenty of features as well as having the ability to deliver quality at a fraction of its price, then the Onkyo TX-8160 2 channel Network Stereo Receiver will be the top choice for you. Together with its affordability, it does make perfect sense for you to purchase this either as a gift or just for your family!
